NFN Music Review – LUCY GRIMBLE : Between the Shadow and the Sun. (Integrity Music)

The name Lucy Grimble is already familiar to readers of NFN, and here we have the recently-moved-to-Devon singer/songwriter/worship leader with her latest full lengther. Started during the pandemic and developed over the past three years, I am happy to say that these ten songs, lyrically grounded in the realities of life during recent world events, for me represent the pinnacle of Lucy’s output to date. “I found that pain and suffering cannot be divorced from the Christian walk, and in fact the Christian walk is so often learning how to trust God in the midst of pain.” Said to be “a thought provoking and uplifting project all at once”, it is the kind of album that as a reviewer and music lover I find only comes along once in a while. The subtle groove of ‘Ready for the dawn’ turns out to be just the beginning of a beautifully judged musical exploration of the Christian faith journey. The title track follows, reminding us of God’s presence in all circumstances (“He holds us in the shadow and the sun”). The clear message of previously released single ‘Perfect timing’ (“Your timing is perfect”) leads into the particularly lovely melody and chords of ‘Hope (again)’. ‘Spacious Place’ comes next, which becomes my standout musically because of its exceptionally beautiful arrangement. Second single ‘Shedding skin’ provides some of the ‘heaviest’ musical moments on the album. ‘But for the grace’ features the beautifully played 1780 Nicolo Gagliano violin of Grig Cuciuc. Last track ‘Now and forever’ provides a rousing ‘build’ before dropping away to solo piano to end a really lovely album. This is top quality CCM with songwriting of the highest standard, melodies and arrangements that are inventive and interesting, and all topped off by lovely recorded sound – why can’t all releases sound as good?! I’ve had the pleasure of reviewing some excellent albums in the past twelve months. With its predominance of real acoustic instruments and lovely note-perfect vocals added into the mix, this one at least equals the best and is therefore a strong contender for my album of the year. 10/10. Integrity Music Release w/e 7th October : Lucy Grimble

“Between the Shadow and the Sun” reveals UK artist Lucy Grimble’s journey over the last three years from a creative, spiritual, and mental standpoint. Started during the pandemic, the new concept album unpacks trauma, doubt, unrest, and loss with unmatched honesty. Over 10 songs, she artistically tells the common human story of our world and its recent events, whilst soaking listeners in the lightness of hoping in God. The themes of darkness and light became a framework for Lucy, reflecting where she found herself and unlocking new songs in the process.“I found that pain and suffering cannot be divorced from the Christian walk,” Lucy says, “and in fact the Christian walk is so often learning how to trust God in the midst of pain.”

NFN Music Review – LUCY GRIMBLE : Shedding Skin. (Integrity Music)

This is Lucy’s second single, taken from her forthcoming album. Inspired by a personal situation demanding forgiveness, “Shedding Skin” doesn’t shy away from the torment of bitterness and points to the beauty of choosing to bear God’s image in the face of pain. The song reflects on scriptural passages about pouring new wine into new wineskins (Mark 2:22, Matthew 9:17, Luke 5:36), as well as the story of the seed needing to die to multiply in John 12. There’s an atmospheric start to the song, as Lucy’s vocals are crisp and clean. The backing, then, includes light percussion and some delicious guitar playing. Mid-song, there’s a short ethereal break, before Lucy beings to sing again. As the song concludes, perhaps the lyrics say it all. “Here’s my heart; Here’s my life, come on in.” Simple words, for a simple prayer to God.   7/10.

New Lucy Grimble song is heartbeat of forthcoming album

The new single symbolizes the interplay between dark and light, a theme that runs through the new album

British worship artist Lucy Grimble releases the last single before her awaited studio album releasing on October 6th, 2023.

The new song is called “Ready for the Dawn,” and was written in 2020 amid an intense period of writer’s block resulting from the trauma of the pandemic, internal struggles within, and daunting mental health challenges. This was the song that broke this silence and numbness, and in fact kickstarted the writing process for Lucy’s forthcoming album.

The new single embodies the theme of interplay between dark and light, shadow and sun, which runs through the album, as she explains:

“During those bleak times, sometimes the sunrise was enough to remind me that things do change.”

“Ready for the Dawn” speaks to people in the depths of mental health challenges, pointing to the promises of God. This song builds from the bottom, taking the listener alongside Lucy on her journey from the bleak depths of uncertainty towards the glimmers of light found in the morning. The new single is supported by a conceptual music video shot on the coast of Northern Ireland.

Integrity Music Releases w/e 8th September 2023

“The Mystery of Christ” is a live project that joined together worship leaders and thought leaders from the US, UK, and South America. Recorded live in Nashville, the new album from REVERE is a response to the act of worship having become more of a growth catalyzer in the modern Church than a holy act of surrender. It features 14 songs about the reverence of God and the mystery of Christ, including a powerful sermon from John Bevere on the fear of the Lord and additional readings.

In 2020, amid an intense period of writer’s block resulting from the trauma of the
pandemic, internal struggles within, and daunting mental health challenges, Lucy
Grimble found that any attempts to write felt insignificant and even pointless. “Ready for the Dawn” was the song that broke this silence and numbness, and kickstarted the writing process for her forthcoming album. The new single speaks to people in the depths of mental health challenge, pointing to the promises of God.

FAITHFUL’s third single from their upcoming project focusing on Psalms of action is called “To Dwell As One.” The song is rooted in Psalm 133, leaning into the pain we all feel and pointing out that certain wounds can only heal from within the confines of a community.

ICF Worship wrote “You Got Me” from Psalm 18 to remind people – particularly the Church – of the importance of holding on to Jesus amidst the chaos and changes we all face with a core message of encouragement to anchor our faith in Christ.

Unified Sound releases “El Cordero y El Leon,” a new Latin rendition of “Lion and the Lamb” featuring singer Pete Rodriguez. This song praises and exalts Jesus Christ for His multifaceted presence, reflecting on His sovereignty and majesty, as well as His love and sacrifice

Lucy Grimble releases second single from upcoming album

“Shedding Skin” is an honest song prompted by the common human experience of self-reflection

British worship leader and artist Lucy Grimble unveils her second single, “Shedding Skin,” an honest song prompted by the common human experience of self-reflection and the need to change. The new song is another piece in her upcoming studio album announced last month, which metaphorically plays with the moments of shadows and light of life.

Finding a space between the hauntingly honest lyricism of Fiona Apple and an ethereal sonic backdrop echoing Radiohead, Grimble’s new single is a moody, spiritual walk towards the Light. She crafted her own sounds (vocal FX) and used a lot of synths to create a sense of discordance and texture.

The new single asks hard questions that lead towards growth, encouraging listeners that the wrestle to let go and surrender is always more than rewarded by the new life that God will bring.

FAITHFUL releases “A Place For You,” a mellow folk track led by Sarah Macintosh, Savannah Locke, and Jess Ray. Carrying their upcoming project’s mission of bringing the Psalms to life – specifically Psalms of action – their second single takes inspiration from Psalm 68:4-8 as an invitation to those feeling broken, weary, and afraid to come to God.

REVERE introduces their last single, “The Name of the Lord,” before the awaited release of their new live album. Written by Addison Bevere, Dwan Hill, and Mitch Wong, and led by the latter alongside LEELAND and May Angeles, this song centers on the majesty of the mystery of Christ. “The Name of the Lord” is the backbone on which the upcoming album was founded.
