Act Of Congress Releases The Hymns That Made Us; Triumphs to Tragedies, These 10 Hymns Are a Soundtrack for These Genre-Bending Band Members’ Lives

“One of the freshest sounding, exuberant bands

in all of the known acoustic universe” – NPR’s Bluegrass Breakdown

Genre-bending acoustic quartet Act of Congress brings its unique blend of pop, folk, gospel and bluegrass to The Hymns That Made Us, a full-length album available at digital and streaming outlets everywhere via https://linktr.ee/actofcongress and through Centricity Music’s new distribution arm, Residence Music.

This self-produced album, The Hymns That Made Us, was mixed by four-time GRAMMY Award winning Ryan Freeland (Bonnie Raitt, Ray LaMontagne) and reimagines timeless classics that invite listeners to worship with thanksgiving, confession, prayer, lament and praise.

The Hymns That Made Us is our tribute to the timeless songs that have become the soundtrack of our lives; the triumphs and tragedies. We hope you love this album!” collectively exclaims the band consisting of Connie Skellie (violin, vocals), Adam Wright (mandolin, vocals), Chris Griffin (guitars) and Tim Carroll (bass).

Among the 10 hymns selected by the band members for this album is “Christ the Solid Rock,” which has proven especially poignant for Skellie as she teaches her kids that their identity is anchored in Jesus and not in their circumstances. Both of her sons were born with an incurable eye disease.

Carroll and his family lost their home in a catastrophic fire last year and have found comfort singing, “Whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say, ‘It is well, it is well with my soul.’” Carroll found a new depth in the beloved “It Is Well” after reading the story of hymn writer, Horatio Spafford, who lost everything in the Chicago fire of 1837.

“I became a believer during college while studying guitar. Hymns were unfamiliar to me, but I would use those timeless melodies as practice,” says Griffin, who leads worship at the nation’s second largest church, Church of the Highlands. “‘Come Thou Fount,’ in particular, was a song I would sit on my front porch swing and play, exploring alternate chord progressions and harmonies. Along the way, the lyrics, Teach my heart to sing Thy praise, really sunk in.”

“The songs we’re writing now and the album we just released have so much to say about who we are and what we believe,” sums up Wright, who shares lead vocals with Skellie. “I want people to see authenticity. I want them to feel served. I want them to find the joy we feel in this music.”

The full The Hymns That Made Us track listing follows:

01) Nothing But The Blood

02) Come Thou Fount

03) It Is Well

04) How Great Thou Art

05) Christ The Solid Rock

06) Wondrous Love

07) I’ll Fly Away

08) Dear Refuge

09) Turn Your Eyes

10) Amazing Grace

Dave Higgs of NPR’s Bluegrass Breakdown calls Act of Congress, “one of the freshest sounding, exuberant bands in all of the known acoustic universe.” Based in Birmingham, AL, the group has been touring as a band for over 15 years. Releasing five full length albums and two acclaimed Christmas EPs, their songs have received Showtime and Google placements, they are consistently voted a “Must See Live Act of Alabama” and have been the featured artist in the state’s “Keep Alabama Beautiful” campaign.

Performing at SXSW and the International Newgrass Festival where their full set is still in regular rotation on National Public Television, their global audience has also continued to grow after completing five tours as U.S. State Department Cultural Ambassadors in countries such as Thailand, Oman, Palau, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Philippines, Bali, Liberia and Jordan.

Playing on stages with Toby Keith, John Mayer, Sara Evans, Edwin McCain, Taylor Hicks and many others, Act of Congress are regularly invited to play with symphonies, having put together a must-see Christmas show and a “Bluejeans and Bluegrass” pops concert. They have also been featured guests on the nationally syndicated Rick & Bubba Show and Woodsongs Old Time Radio on SiriusXM.

America’s Got Talent, BET’s Sunday Best Alum Bay Turner Releases Debut Radio Single, “Brand New”

Single Story Stems From Turner Recognizing His True Identity, Followed by

Full Recovery After Doctors Told Him He Would Likely Never Sing Again

Turner Headlines 16 Community Worship Nights in Eight States

After being discovered by millions on Season 17 of America’s Got Talent and Season 10 of BET’s Sunday Best, singer/songwriter Bay Turner releases his debut, Centricity Music radio single, “Brand New.” Available at digital and streaming outlets everywhere today (May 3) via BayTurner.lnk.to/BrandNew, the song follows Turner’s remarkable journey seasoned with successes as well as health issues that threatened to end his musical career.

“Four years ago, a doctor told me my vocal cord was damaged beyond repair and that I’d never sing again,” remembers Turner as he shares the story behind his new song that he wrote with Turner Burnett and Sajan Nauriyal, who also produced the single. “This led me to sitting in silence for three months, and it was in that silence that the Lord met me in a powerful way. Truthfully, I had made peace with giving up my dream. My identity was no longer in singing, I found it in Him. He showed me that I was more than just a singer, I was a son of God, and that was more than enough!”

“But then an honest to goodness miracle happened,” continues Turner. “I went back to a different doctor, and he said I was completely healed. And that’s where we got the idea for this song. He made me brand new, and, if He did it for me, He can surely do it for you.”

Chorus

You give me a new breath in my lungs

You got me singing a brand new song

From night into day

Yeah I’ve been changed

Finally living outside my mind

Looking ahead, left what’s behind

From night into day

Yeah I’ve been changed

Actin’ brand new

Leading “Brand New” along with worship favorites, Turner headlines Community Worship Nights, The Summer Series in 16 cities across eight states. These events began May 1 and wrap up June 9.

About Bay Turner:

Wholly captivated by the soulful sounds of artists like Donny Hathaway, Luther Vandross and Stevie Wonder when he was a young man, Turner’s voice blossomed while in college. After earning his undergraduate degree, he became a rising star in young artist programs affiliated with major opera houses around the world. As his faith became more of a central force in his life, he began leading worship alongside the iconic Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir.

Just when he thought he was stepping into a divinely orchestrated era of his career, surgery to remove two benign tumors in his chest nicked and paralyzed one of his vocal cords. After spending months in silence under doctor’s orders, new tests miraculously revealed his vocal cords to be seamlessly healed and healthy. Turner went on to sign a label and publishing deal with Centricity Music and to perform on America’s Got Talent and BET’s Sunday Best.

A fusion of the R&B/Soul that raised him, the opera that challenged him, the Gospel that shaped him and the modern worship that captured his heart, Turner says, “I know I’m supposed to be using what God gave me to bring Him glory. It’s 100% in God’s hands, and I’m just here to be a faithful servant.”

NFN New Music Review – APOLLO LTD : Hello Human. (Centricity Music)

This is alternative-pop duo Apollo LTD’s first album in over three years, and the follow-up to 2021’s Nothing is Ordinary, Everything is Beautiful. The songs on the album are about the human experience and discovering how God relates to us in every aspect of it. The ups and the downs. Joy and sorrow. Pain and beauty. ‘Breakthrough’ is the first track, and I was instantly comparing it to the sound of The Newsboys. Contemporary pop with a great tune and an ear worm of a chorus. The theme continues with ‘Dreaming,’ while ‘Soul Worth Saving’ is a slightly slower song.   The recent single, ‘Future’s Calling’ is a call to those who still need to hear the word of God. A mixture of guitars and keyboards, along with a thumping beat, make this a great listen. The overall sound of each track is really bright – none of this indescribable “mush” that often happens with questionable production. There’s a really anthemic feel to the chorus of ‘Say So (Halo Broken)’ and I soon found myself singing along. By this time (song 7) I was really enjoying the album. Although, I couldn’t shake that comparison with Newsboys, Apollo LTD were proving to be a quality outfit in their own right. All the songs just hit the right spot for me. ‘A Day in the Life’ is so infectious, that I was singing this for hours after hearing it. It’s the one that looks at the ups and downs of life, and how – with God’s help – we can get through each day. So simple, but brilliant. From there, we move to ‘Undeniably You’, a ballad, and beautifully sung. Closing with ‘Eden,’ I must admit that this release is an early contender for album of the year.  10/10.

Unspoken Releases “What He Says About You” Ahead Of Fourth Full-Length Album Set To Launch Later This Year

Radio Single Follows Over Half-A-Billion Streams Since Band’s Formation

RIAA Certified Gold®-selling Centricity Music band Unspoken releases its first radio single of 2024, “What He Says About You,” which will be featured on the group’s fourth, full-length studio album set to release later this year. The single is available now at digital and streaming outlets globally via https://unspokenband.lnk.to/WHSAY and follows three No. 1 Billboard radio songs, 11 Top 15 hits, over 350,000,000 on-demand streams and more than 152,000,000 music video views racked-up since Unspoken’s formation in 2014.

Written by Unspoken’s Chad Mattson and Jon Lowry along with Ethan Hulse, Tyrus Morgan, Tedd T, Tony Wood and Chris Stevens, “What He Says About You” was produced by Stevens (TobyMac, Carrie Underwood) along with Thomas Toner (Jelly Roll, Upchurch).

“There are one million voices vying for our attention. Social media, news, culture, peers, not to mention the voices in our heads. It’s a struggle to hear the truth among the lies. We wrote this song with our daughters in mind, wanting to remind them that there’s only one voice that really matters: the Voice of Jesus,” says Mattson referencing John 10:27-28. “I don’t know what voices you’re hearing today, but the word of God always brings us back to reality in truth. You are loved, chosen and treasured. That is the truth. Don’t give power to lies you may tell yourself or that are spoken over you, because truly, the only thing that matters is what He says about you.”

“The world will tell us it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks about us, it only matters what we think about ourselves. But Paul shows us we can’t even trust our own feelings,” adds Lowry referencing 1 Corinthians 4: 3, 4. “Only through trusting what God says about us can we have true freedom from the lies others tell us and the lies we tell ourselves. And what does God tell us? As we place our faith in the finished work of Christ, the Father sees us and says, ‘you are my beloved child in whom I am well pleased.’”

Chorus:

You are loved

Chosen

Long before the day you were born

You are held

Forgiven

Treasured more than you’ll ever know

When the lies get loud

Let the truth ring out

Till the only thing you’re listening to

Is what he says about you

The new music follows Unspoken’s God Help Me 2023 EP featuring the “God Help Me” music video that has that has been viewed more than 2.8M times on YouTube alone and 2019’s Reason, whose title track became the band’s biggest multi-format chart-topper to date. The album also produced a pair of Top 15 radio singles: “You’ve Always Been” and “Just Give Me Jesus.”

About Unspoken:

Unspoken’s music is as distinct as its roots. Its soulful, pop-flavored songs are led by the Adam Levine-esque vocals of Chad Mattson. Fueled by Mattson’s transparency as a songwriter who has battled addiction and is now two decades into his sobriety, along with Jon Lowry (bass), Ariel Munoz (drums), Zach Smith (guitars) and Matthew Calloway (keys), Unspoken has no fear of mixing it up, whether backed by a horn section, gospel choir or hip-hop rhythms. The band released its self-titled album in 2014 sparking two No. 1 Billboard radio hits, “Start A Fire” and “Lift My Life Up,” which launched them into headliner tour positions. The band’s sophomore album, Follow Through (2016), debuted at No. 7 on the Billboard Top Christian Album Chart while its album, Reason (2019), sparked the band’s biggest, multiformat No. 1 hit so far, “Reason.” Unspoken’s Top 10 AC hits include: “Good Fight,” “You’ve Always Been” and the iTunes Top Christian Song of the Year in 2012, “Who You Are.” Having toured with TobyMac, Casting Crowns, Mercy Me, Big Daddy Weave and more, Unspoken band members are living out their mission to be unspoken testimonies to God’s love and power, and to speak what oftentimes goes unsaid.

Centricity Music / Publishing Announce Newest Artist / Songwriter, Bay Turner

BrickHouse Entertainment Manages, Platform Artists Books Turner

America’s Got Talent, BET’s Sunday Best Contestant Made Full Recovery After Doctors Told Him He Would Likely Never Sing Again

“My faith grew in pain…God had to teach me how to separate who I am as a man from my gift of singing” – Bay Turner

Centricity Music and Centricity Publishing sign exclusive agreements with America’s Got Talent, BET’s Sunday Best alum and singer/songwriter, Bay Turner, who is represented by BrickHouse Entertainment and Platform Artists for management and booking respectively.

Bay Turner is pictured with his Centricity Music and Publishing team.

With his team in place, and after being discovered by millions on Season 17 of America’s Got Talent and Season 10 of BET’s Sunday Best, Turner is poised to release new music following a remarkable journey seasoned with successes as well as health issues that threatened to end his career in music.

As his faith became more of a central force in his life, he discovered, and began leading worship alongside, the iconic Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir.

Just when he thought he was stepping into a divinely orchestrated era of his career, surgery to remove two benign tumors in his chest nicked and paralyzed one of his vocal chords. He was told he would likely never sing again. Under doctors’ orders, he spent the next several months in silence, not using his voice at all. Miraculously, new tests were done afterwards revealing his vocal chords to be seamlessly healed and healthy — so healthy that there wasn’t even any visible scar tissue, which was a rare occurrence that left even the seasoned ENT doctor confounded.

“I think my faith grew in pain,” Turner observes. “God had to teach me how to separate who I am as a man from my gift of singing. I think I would have crashed and burned as a recording artist if I was fully relying on my gifting and not on God. Today, I’m so grateful for the pain that brought me fully back to Jesus, though it’s crazy to be thankful for the stuff that felt like the end of the world.”

While many artists have earned record deals thanks to air time on these widely publicized contests, before his season of “America’s Got Talent” even aired, Turner was approached by his new label home, who initially discovered him via a YouTube video where he was singing a cover of CeCe Winans’ “Alabaster Box.” After attending Centricity Music’s invitation-only independent artist retreat, Turner was signed to both a recording and publishing contract.

“In our typical work, we don’t hear a lot of voices that literally stop us in our tracks, but when I first heard Bay’s, I had to find out who this guy was,” reflects Centricity Music’s A&R Manager, Stephen Floyd. “As we began the process of building a friendship, I really wanted him to be a part of the future that Centricity is building. It was a joy to discover not only is he a genuine artist with a world-class voice, he’s a world-class person as well.”

“Bay Turner is a remarkable artist and an even more incredible human,” adds Chase Swayze, BrickHouse Entertainment. “Bay lights up every room he walks in and it’s truly an honor to partner with him in sharing the message of Christ through music! Our team could not be more excited for the days ahead.”

Since being paired with some of Christian music’s most respected songwriters, like Paul Duncan, Tony Wood, Michael Farren, Ethan Hulse and Bryan Fowler, among others, Turner has fallen in love with crafting original music. The burgeoning lyricist now has upwards of 90 songs he’s co-written over the course of the past 18 months. It’s a deep well from which to draw as he chooses selections to record for his debut EP, due later this year. A fusion of the R&B/Soul that raised him, the opera that challenged him, the Gospel that shaped him and the modern worship that captured his heart, Turner’s diverse artistry is currently being cultivated in the studio. His debut single, “Brand New,” is set to release May 3.

“There’s no pressure for me to be anything other than who God’s called me to be. So I think that takes a lot of the worldly weight off,” the newcomer remarks of the chapter in his story that’s about to unfold. “There’s nothing I could do as Bay Turner to ever make this thing happen. I know I’m supposed to be using what God gave me to bring Him glory. It’s 100% in God’s hands, and I’m just here to be a faithful servant.”

NFN Music Review – CHRIS RENZEMA : MANNA. (Centricity Music)

Chris is a singer/spngwriter from Nashville, who learned to play and sing in churches. His musical style lends itself to pop/rock in my opinion, as on the catchy ‘Not Given Up on You.’ Bright guitars and fx’d vocals reminiscent of Chris Isaak, make this an excellent album starter. From there, we move to the acoustic duet with Jess Ray, called ‘Hereditary.’ The stripped back song is just as attractive to the listener as the previous number. ‘Holy Ghost’ returns to the pop sound as Chris sings of his joy at the three-in-one, Father, Son & Holy Ghost. Driving guitars move this one along at pace, and the overall sound is very pleasing. ‘God & Prozac’ is an interesting and introspective number. Looking at being loved by God, the effect of prescribed medication, and trying to love oneself at the same time. Chris, obviously, sings this one straight from the heart. There’s a similar feel to the laid-back ‘My Heart is a Stranger,’ while the singer, once more, opens his heart and declares that he still struggles with his faith from time to time. Like some other recent review material of mine, this release finds the artist not afraid to ask questions about life in general, as well as his walk with Jesus. In that, I find the subjects just as thoughtful as the general praise and worship releases. The title track finally makes an appearance towards the end of the album. Another acoustic led number, there’s almost a Dylan-esque production about it. Overall, this is not just “another” Christian album. Chris writes with an openness and honesty that many of us find difficult to put into words. With this album, Chris does this perfectly.   8/10.

Patrick Mayberry Hits First No. 1 At Radio With Psalm 23-Inspired “Lead On Good Shepherd” Featuring Zahriya Zachary

Single from Mayberry’s Centricity Music Debut Album, Wild Faith,

Is Mainstay at Radio for Over Seven Months

Centricity Music singer, songwriter and worship leader Patrick Mayberry’s Psalm 23-inspired “Lead On Good Shepherd” featuring Zahriya Zachary becomes his first No. 1 radio hit on the Mediabase Christian Audience Chart. The song from Mayberry’s acclaimed, first full-length album, Wild Faith, was released to radio Aug. 4, 2023 and has since been a mainstay on radio and during his touring coast-to-coast across the US and beyond.

Produced by Mayberry and Jacob Arnold, and written by Centricity Publishing’s Mayberry, Paul Duncan and Frankie Orella, “Lead On Good Shepherd” begins with a Grand Ole Opry-worthy spirit before morphing into a foot-stomping rock groove, turning the peaceful passage into a roaring celebration. Gathering airplay on 101 reporting stations and named by Amazon Music in its “Best of 2023: Christian” playlist, the single also includes a special version featuring Crowder.

“Psalm 23 always gets used as a comforting Scripture at funerals when I think it’s just such a comforting verse for life. This Good Shepherd promises to walk alongside us every single step of the way — providing for us, protecting us, telling us to rest, leading us by still waters,” Mayberry says. “God’s track record has proven He’s a good and faithful shepherd, so I’m going to keep following, step by step. I’m going to trust Him, so lead on, Good Shepherd.”

Along with the single, Mayberry’s Wild Faith welcomes everyone with untamed melodies and astute lyrics, all artfully crafted and intentionally threaded together to take listeners on a life-changing journey. With songs that can serve a Sunday worship service while also delving deeper into the human experience, the album encourages every sojourner with the truth that they’re never alone.

Passionate about seeing people connect with the heart of God through music and corporate worship, Mayberry takes his new music and fan favorites on tour nationally. Joining Jeremy Camp last fall, he has also traveled across the country with Crowder, Cory Asbury, We The Kingdom and more.
