Worship leader CHRIS QUILALA has revealed that the Jesus Culture team is gearing up to release a new live album this summer. This new record was recently recorded at their home church in Sacramento, CA and has a tentative release date of late July/early August. Chris says that in all, they recorded about 19 live songs and now are working to narrow down that tracklisting. The new record will reportedly feature a special live version of Kim Walker-Smith’s “Fresh Outpouring.” Aside from this pre-released track, all other songs of the upcoming Jesus Culture album are expected to be brand new.
Dream Records singer/songwriter ABIGAIL DUHON has released her new self-titled album. The track list includes: “Into The Light,” “Rebound,” “Dance Up (Feat. Spencer Kane),” “Give Me More,” “I’m Not Ashamed” and “More Than Gold”
Born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, Abigail discovered her passion for music immediately after Hurricane Katrina destroyed the family home and nearly took every natural possession they owned. At only six years old during the crisis, she awoke to hear a song in her heart and wrote out lyrics as a reflection on their sudden circumstances. The song was titled “Beautiful” and would become one of her first original songs on her debut album released at the tender age of ten.
Her role as Elizabeth in the 2013 film “This Is Our Time” launched her film career. Then, in 2014, she was cast in the worldwide record-setting Christian film “God’s Not Dead” as student, Abby Wheaton. Her work as a featured actor in “Camp Cool Kids” (2017) and “Caged No More” (January 2016) show extreme diversity in roles. Two others include “God’s Not Dead 2” (April 2016) and “I’m Not Ashamed” (October 2016) the Columbine High School Shooting Story. She continues to add to her resume with other independent films.

‘You are the One Thing’ is an upbeat dance track that celebrates the freedom that comes through dependence on God. The lyrics and melody focus on how liberating it is to know that life is not all up to us, and that there is One that we can rely on.

HELEN YOUSAF : Custodians of Fire. (Elim Sound)
It’s been seven years since Helen’s last studio album. Her brand new album ‘Custodians Of Fire’ is a compilation of some of the prophetic songs Helen has been singing out over the past two years. Ian Yates and the Elim Sound team partnered with Helen to gel these fragments of prophetic ministry into songs that would encourage the body of Christ and speak a word in season to the atmospheres we find ourselves living in for His glory! I found the album quite difficult to review because, on the whole, these aren’t songs that you can singalong to. Kristene Mueller came to mind, when comparing Helen’s vocals sound but, maybe, the album is in similar style to Angie Lendon’s “Be Still.” The opening “High Horse” tells how we should choose to love the way that Jesus loves, even if that means loving our enemies. With little more than piano backing, Helen weaves her lyrics to powerfully get the message across. The title track explains that we are all “Custodians of [God’s] Fire” and that we are living to carry on His glory in this world. “I Come Alive” moves into mid-tempo territory, while the epic “I Pitch My Tent” sees the singer almost crying in worship. At the end of the album, both “Generous Father” and “Hope Remains” turn out to be “normal” songs. The former has a catchy tune, while the latter is quite sweet in delivery. Helen’s powerful voice speaks to those in pain, or feeling a lack of purpose. These songs of honesty, hope and heartfelt passion will draw the listener in, encouraging, uplifting and inspiring in their personal journey knowing they are carrying God’s glory into every area of their lives. 7/10.
RACHEL KIMBLER : Breathe. (www.facebook.com/rachkimbler)
Sadly, I don’t have any background details of this singer/songwriter, so I’m not sure where she’s from. This single is “doing the rounds” on social media and has garnered 5,000 listens so far. The production of the song is quite poor, as Rachel’s rather thin vocals, almost disappear at times. The percussion, too, is quite off-putting, as it sounds as if it’s been played to a completely different tempo to the vocals. Lyrically, because of the indifferent production, it was difficult to hear a lot of the words. But, I believe the song to be about being worthy to be loved by God, and breathing in the beauty and mortality of life. A better production would benefit the Rachel’s efforts, and maybe that’s where she should get help for her next recording. 5/10.
A tribute album marking the 25th anniversary of the death of singer/songwriter MARK HEARD is being funded by fans through PledgeMusic. ‘Treasure Of The Broken Land: The Songs Of Mark Heard’ is produced by Phil Madeira and features Americana artists Rodney Crowell, Drew Holcomb, Sierra Hull, Buddy Miller, Cindy Morgan, Amy Helm and others. The project’s mastermind is Jeff Grantham who wrote, “While bringing awareness to Herd’s stunning body of work is certainly one of the main goals of the project I also hope ‘Treasure Of The Broken Land’ will make Mark’s widow Janet, and his daughter Rebecca, proud.”
