New Release from Integrity Music – 9th February 2024

LEELAND’s latest single, a re-release of, “You’re Not Done” features two-time Grammy nominee, Kari Jobe. “We are still pinching ourselves in disbelief that one of our musical heroes is singing on this song with us!” enthuses Lead singer Leeland Mooring. “We are so honored to partner with our friend Kari to see this message of hope flood the hearts of God’s people.” This soul-stirring track is filled with hope as it was written during a miraculous recovery. The heartfelt lyrics echo a powerful message: “If you still have breath in your lungs, you’re not done…” The words came to Leeland while reflecting on a close friend’s battle for life during the pandemic. “My prayer for this song is that it would be more than a track on a playlist but instead a weapon of hope in your hand to fight for the ones around you – that the message will break through the clouds of anxiety and fear with the light of hope that we have in Christ.” With a captivating blend of sounds, this catchy single serves as a reminder that every breath we take is a testament to God’s plan of redemption.

NFN Music Review – REVERE : The Mystery of Christ. (Integrity Music)

Recorded live in Nashville, the new album from REVERE is a response to the act of worship having become more of a growth catalyzer in the modern Church than a holy act of surrender. REVERE seeks to bring worshippers back to the catalytic agency of the glory of God, where human philosophies and popularity do not take centre stage but instead point to the source of our reverence. With 17 songs on the album, I settled back for over 90 minutes of music, beginning with the gentle tomes of Laura Hackett Park on ‘Holy, the Lord Most High.’ Music is provided by just a piano, which isalso used in ‘Here is Our Surrender,’ too. There’s a complete change in musical direction with the funky gospel numbers ‘Lift Him Up in the Sanctuary’ and ‘All Hail.’ Singer, Carrington Gaines leads the way, with a choir backing him with gusto. Following two songs which are sung in Spanish (?) listeners are treated to the 11 minute epic called ‘The Name of the Lord.’ Vocal credits are given to Leeland, Mitch Wong, May Angeles, and REVERE, and it’s certainly a big production number. I, often, find that songs of this length to be a little off-putting, but this one had a certain something about it that kept my interest for the whole song. Other highlights include the gospel themed ballad ‘Glory Hallelujah’ as well as contemporary praise of ‘Glory Be.’ There’s quite a selection of songs, and this makes of an interesting recording.   7/10.

Integrity Music Releases | Friday, August 11

Lucy Grimble unveils her second single, “Shedding Skin,” an honest song prompted by the common human experience of self-reflection and the need to change. Finding a space between the hauntingly honest lyricism of Fiona Apple and an ethereal sonic backdrop echoing Radiohead, “Shedding Skin” is a moody, spiritual walk towards the Light.

FAITHFUL releases “A Place For You,” a mellow folk track led by Sarah Macintosh, Savannah Locke, and Jess Ray. Carrying their upcoming project’s mission of bringing the Psalms to life – specifically Psalms of action – their second single takes inspiration from Psalm 68:4-8 as an invitation to those feeling broken, weary, and afraid to come to God.

REVERE introduces their last single, “The Name of the Lord,” before the awaited release of their new live album. Written by Addison Bevere, Dwan Hill, and Mitch Wong, and led by the latter alongside LEELAND and May Angeles, this song centers on the majesty of the mystery of Christ. “The Name of the Lord” is the backbone on which the upcoming album was founded.

NFN Music Review – LEELAND : City of God. (Capitol CMG)

An album based on Psalm 46, starts with a very pleasant pop song ‘Still Mighty,’ which is very listenable and easily sung along to. I was surprised for track 2, ‘Ark.’ I was expecting something along the same lines but no, a really nice song.  Vanessa Hill shares the great vocals over a slower and, for me, more interesting arrangement. Starting with gentle piano, a bassline then enters the soundscape. An organ sound gently fades in for a couple of lines, before the whole band finally lifts the song. Lyrically it reminds us about when the flood comes, you will be safe in His ark. A very reassuring message over a gentle backing. ‘Heart and Flesh’ is the third offering with a different vocalist, Taya. I must say that I find it distracting when half way through a line the singer takes a quick breath which devalues the lyric. Having said that, the chorus has a long line which is sung perfectly without a breath, so breath control is obviously not an issue. (Just a modern trend I guess). This is a really nice worshipful song and I am liking it! Nice backing vocals and guitars. And, yes, I forgot all about the breathing issue as the song built up towards the end. I noted that 4 of the songs are over 6 minutes long, and 2 of them over 9 minutes. Yet, when listening, I hadn’t felt that the songs were too long  – which was refreshing. ‘Yahwey’ is an example. A gentle worship song which flows like a river, guided by the vocals and piano/acoustic guitar accompaniment. “If you still have breath in your lungs, you’re not done,” is a line from ‘You’re Not Done.; Again, quietly,  the song reassures you that you can rely on God being by your side always. With similar backing to the other songs, the guitars and organ blend together for a solid wall of sound, accompanying the vocals.  ‘Midnight’ is a prayer, although not sure why ‘midnight’ is even in the lyrics? It seems out if place, Jesus or Father would fit better (for me!). ‘Fall of Dagon’ is a song about the falling of false gods, and how the true God is worshiped when the falsehoods are exposed.  Then, we come to ‘Jacob’s Ladder which takes us above the clouds and into the heavens, a place we all want to be. “I don’t wanna come back down”. It’s such a good song. Upbeat and uplifting, just a great musical picture. ‘Wonderfully Made’ is a beautiful song reminding us we all are fearfully and wonderfully made. It reminded me of when I first saw each of my grandchildren, only to realise that I am just the same only a lot older. The title track closes things, and lasts for 9 minutes. A sudden key transposition in the early part took me by surprise, and then again, when I thought that the song was over. But no! It becomes a prophetic song before reverting to its earlier pace. Like the rest of the album, very listenable and uplifting. 9/10 Noel Donaldson.
