New Integrity Music Release – July 29th : Anchor Hymns – ‘In Christ Alone’

Anchor Hymns is the latest Integrity Music multi-artist project which was unveiled last month with a debut single. Starting with reaching into the past, the initial releases will cover some of Integrity’s most iconic songs and reframe them in a modern and musical way; now taking on one of the most enduring hymns of recent years as their second single, ‘In Christ Alone’. Written by Keith Getty and Stuart Townsend, this song has spread far and wide within the global church as it tells the good news of Jesus Christ so richly and succinctly: “from life’s first cry, to final breath.” This Anchor Hymns version of ‘In Christ Alone’ features established artist and liturgist Sandra McCracken as well as singer-songwriter Antoine Bradford, whose voices blend beautifully on a warm and blues-y soundscape. Commenting on the arrangement of the new single that includes an improvised musical section, Sandra McCracken hopes that, “our interpretation of this hymn will help to be able to be sung in more churches, even with simple instrumentation.” ‘In Christ Alone’ has been a pillar in the Church’s song book and Anchor Hymns hope to continue the trend, as Antoine says that it “echoes the goodness of God in the face of Jesus Christ…it’s in Him alone that lasting fulfilment and eternal hope are found.”

The heart behind Anchor Hymns being to create songs of substance from both a lyrical, theological, and musical frame shines through their second release. Concluding with a nod to what it yet to come, Sandra McCracken notes, “Anchor Hymns is a special collaboration […] I love seeing this diverse community of musicians come together around a desire to write and celebrate hymns of the faith.” This new version of ‘In Christ Alone’ hints that something new is happening here…

New Integrity Music Releases

Friday 20th August 2021

Vineyard Worship presents its latest release, ‘Vineyard Soul: The Chicago Sessions’. Vineyard Soul is the modern gospel expression from within the Vineyard Worship family. Recorded live in Chicago, ‘Vineyard Soul: The Chicago Sessions’ features the familiar and poignant vocals of Vineyard Soul powerhouses Tina Colón Williams and Joshua Miller. Featuring ‘You Are God’, an upbeat, extravagant, joyful song of repentance and an electric faith declaration, and ‘Heaven’s Work’ ,a timeless prayer, calling us to be active participants in God’s Kingdom come and His will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven, ‘Vineyard Soul: The Chicago Sessions’ is layered with rhythmic grooves and dynamic vocal arrangements. Produced by gospel heavyweights Calvin Rodgers & Phillip Feaster, ‘Vineyard Soul: The Chicago Sessions’ is a fresh and authentic sound capturing the heartbeat of the growing number of multiethnic churches in the Vineyard movement.

The new REVERE single is a stunningly warm revisitation of ‘How Deep The Father’s Love For Us’, a timeless anthem written by UK singer-songwriter Stuart Townend. The profound and poetic lyrics are wholeheartedly interpreted by Mission House’s Jess Ray on lead vocals and Taylor Leonhardt’s gentle singing joined with Zach Bolen’s (Citizens) powerful voice . This version of ‘How Deep The Father’s Love For Us’ is an emotion-filled one, marrying the truth of God’s unmatched love to our frail and needy hearts. With a stripped-back nature, it invites us to pause and meditate on the unfathomable goodness of the Lord’s heart for us. ‘How Deep The Father’s Love For Us’ truly is a song we all need to hear and sing.

‘Unser Vater’ is the first single and title track for ICF Worship’s upcoming EP. Translating as “Our Father” the song is inspired by the Lord’s Prayer, reminding us of the open-armed invitation to come to God and a declaration of faith in His unconditional love. Crafted from a place of “relentlessly seeking the Lord like never before,” as singer Luca Aprile says, the single leads to the heart of the Father from the first note. ‘Unser Vater’ opens on a chill note with a rhythmic backbone that evolves into ardent worship, each line declaring the life-changing love of our God. ICF Worship revisit the powerful song (previously released on album ‘Choose To Praise’) with fresh energy and passion flowing from the team’s undeniable experience of Divine Love.

VARIOUS : Reckless Love – The Best of British Live Worship. (Essential Christian)

This is a collection of 30 songs of worship, expressing thankfulness at God’s abounding, extravagant love. Recorded at a wide variety of events, it features an array of worship leaders and songwriters. Although I didn’t dislike the first CD, I did find that many songs sounded very much alike. The title track seems to drag on, led by Bright City. Cathy Burton and Lou Fellingham provide highlight The former’s delivery of “Beautiful Things” is lovely, as is Fellingham’s contribution on “How Deep the Father’s Love.” I must admit to being a bit of a Pete James fan. Whether it’s his own song, or those written by someone else, he seems to make each song “come alive.” “My Heart is Singing Loud” has a real bounce to it, while the gentler “Gracefully Broken” provides time for soaking in God’s love. I don’t think that I’ve come across Andy Smith before as a worship leader, or songwriter, but his input of “Revelation 10” is really good. Ben Cantelon leads on “Remain,” while there’s no mistaking the voice of Stuart Townend on “The Power of the Cross.” One recording that left me in disbelief was Graham Kendrick’s performance of Matt Redman’s “Nothing But the Blood.” The vocals sound like Graham is at the bottom of a wishing well, and the production results in the song sounding like a dirge. I guess everyone has an “off” day. Still, overall, there’s quite a selection modern songs for you to enjoy.   7/10.

Keith and Kristyn Getty’s New Project Challenges Churches to Rediscover the Power of Psalms in Congregational Worship

Keith & Kristyn Getty announce their latest live album Sing!: Psalms: Ancient + Modern featuring a host of special guests and capturing the unique atmosphere at the Getty Music Worship Conference, Sing! 2018, as more than 7,500 musicians and church leaders from 16 countries gathered to learn, pray and sing their faith. The album, to be released in the UK on Friday 15th March, features new songs and timeless classics many of which are inspired by the Psalms.

The Sing! Movement was launched in 2017 with the release of their book, Sing! How Worship Transforms Your Life, Family, and Church, and grew out of Keith & Kristyn Getty’s vision to propel churches towards a deeper, more dynamic view of artistry, theology and congregational singing. Sing! Psalms: Ancient + Modern, blends hymns, old and new, that teach truths of God to carry for life.

Keith Getty OBE says, “Many of the songs on this album have been inspired by the book of Psalms. That Old Testament collection of songs and poetry has as much potency today as it did when King David and other writers first wrote them. Many of the themes are vital for the church to engage with and understand the depth of theological eloquence they deliver.”

Sing! Psalms: Ancient + Modern is a unique listening experience capturing the extraordinary energy of the conference. Featuring guest appearances from Matt Redman, Phil Keaggy, Matt Papa, Matt Merker, Jordan Kauflin, Matt Boswell, Cindy Morgan, Shane and Shane, and Stuart Townend, each track brings its own flavour of theological insight as the Psalms come to life.

Getty continues, “We’re thrilled to have such an amazing group of artists who share our passion to deepen theological understanding through singing. The Psalms help illustrate the importance of God’s people singing and give us a better understanding of our faith. It has been great to collaborate with these friends and explore the richness that the Psalms offer the church across the world.”

The Getty’s next Getty Music Worship Conference: Sing! 2019 will be hosted in Nashville, TN from August 19 – 21, 2019, and is anticipated there will be nearly 13,000 attendees. Audiences will have the opportunity to hear celebrated speakers including John Piper, Joni Eareckson Tada, John MacArthur, Trip Lee, D.A. Carson, Jackie Hill Perry, John Lennox, Os Guinness, Andrew Peterson, Mark Dever, Stuart Townend, Fernando Ortega and many more.

An estimated 100 million people are singing Getty hymns in church services each year, with their almost unique ability to be sung in contemporary and more traditional contexts of church music.

The album will be available from www.gettymusic.com/singpsalms and streaming services everywhere.

The Review Zone : In Christ alone – The songs of Stuart Townend and Keith Getty

VARIOUS :  In Christ Alone: Songs of Stuart Townend and Keith Getty.   (Integrity)

Here we have a 16 track compilation of Townend and Getty songs made famous over the past 25 years. As expected, these recordings mostly feature either Stuart or Kristyn on lead vocals, but also include one with Tim Hughes and a couple with Joanne Hogg. Those delivered by Kristyn and Joanne are the ones that shine performance-wise, as both have a special ability to make a song come to life spiritually. The complex and interesting instrumentation of Joanne’s ‘Across the lands’ and ‘Benediction’ make them particularly attractive musically, with the latter sharing standout status with Kristyn’s beautifully delivered ‘Speak O Lord’. Stuart’s songs are in the main less successful. His ‘Creation sings’ is a particular example, where his somewhat matter-of-fact delivery and the twee and ‘poppy’ arrangement do not suit the lyrics. His ‘Come people of the risen King’ is a similar disappointment, worthy of an altogether more imaginative approach. Although these tracks were obviously recorded over a period of time in a variety of situations, sound quality throughout is consistently good. Averaging everything out then, 7/10. David Deeks
