America’s Got Talent, BET’s Sunday Best Alum Bay Turner Releases Debut Radio Single, “Brand New”

Single Story Stems From Turner Recognizing His True Identity, Followed by

Full Recovery After Doctors Told Him He Would Likely Never Sing Again

Turner Headlines 16 Community Worship Nights in Eight States

After being discovered by millions on Season 17 of America’s Got Talent and Season 10 of BET’s Sunday Best, singer/songwriter Bay Turner releases his debut, Centricity Music radio single, “Brand New.” Available at digital and streaming outlets everywhere today (May 3) via BayTurner.lnk.to/BrandNew, the song follows Turner’s remarkable journey seasoned with successes as well as health issues that threatened to end his musical career.

“Four years ago, a doctor told me my vocal cord was damaged beyond repair and that I’d never sing again,” remembers Turner as he shares the story behind his new song that he wrote with Turner Burnett and Sajan Nauriyal, who also produced the single. “This led me to sitting in silence for three months, and it was in that silence that the Lord met me in a powerful way. Truthfully, I had made peace with giving up my dream. My identity was no longer in singing, I found it in Him. He showed me that I was more than just a singer, I was a son of God, and that was more than enough!”

“But then an honest to goodness miracle happened,” continues Turner. “I went back to a different doctor, and he said I was completely healed. And that’s where we got the idea for this song. He made me brand new, and, if He did it for me, He can surely do it for you.”

Chorus

You give me a new breath in my lungs

You got me singing a brand new song

From night into day

Yeah I’ve been changed

Finally living outside my mind

Looking ahead, left what’s behind

From night into day

Yeah I’ve been changed

Actin’ brand new

About Bay Turner:

Wholly captivated by the soulful sounds of artists like Donny Hathaway, Luther Vandross and Stevie Wonder when he was a young man, Turner’s voice blossomed while in college. After earning his undergraduate degree, he became a rising star in young artist programs affiliated with major opera houses around the world. As his faith became more of a central force in his life, he began leading worship alongside the iconic Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir.

Just when he thought he was stepping into a divinely orchestrated era of his career, surgery to remove two benign tumors in his chest nicked and paralyzed one of his vocal cords. After spending months in silence under doctor’s orders, new tests miraculously revealed his vocal cords to be seamlessly healed and healthy. Turner went on to sign a label and publishing deal with Centricity Music and to perform on America’s Got Talent and BET’s Sunday Best.

A fusion of the R&B/Soul that raised him, the opera that challenged him, the Gospel that shaped him and the modern worship that captured his heart, Turner says, “I know I’m supposed to be using what God gave me to bring Him glory. It’s 100% in God’s hands, and I’m just here to be a faithful servant.”

NFN Music Review – LENA BYRD MILES : Brand New (MyBlock Inc)

After establishing herself as one of the most sought-after vocalists in Contemporary Gospel, Lena Byrd-Miles delivers her debut album, “Brand New”. The project – released late in 2022, has become a staple in the contemporary Gospel-space. “Brand New” is a collection of eleven inspirational songs, each of which showcase Lena’s powerhouse vocals and her unique ability to manipulate her voice to evoke the needed emotion – being comfort, motivation or reassurance. On listening to this album, I went to Spotify, pressed play on the song “Brand New” which is the title track and first track on this album after a 25” vocal dialogue. Instant head dancing occurred. Try it, go to Spotify bring up this album and see what happens to you. “Brand New” was released in 2022 and Lena has recently been awarded her first Stellar Award for “New Artist of the Year.” Lena is a gifted vocalist and her voice has caught the attention of musicians and artists alike and has resulted in her sharing the stage with  many amazing artists including  Tye Tribbett, Lalah Hathaway, Deitrick haddon, Dorinda Clark-Cole, John P Kee and the legendary Edwin Hawkins as part of the new Edwin Hawkins Singers. Her gift continues to open many doors. But more important that all of that, her compassion for mankind will cause you to appreciate her heart. The first track “Brand New” seamlessly rolls into the second track W.O.W. “Walk On Water”. This track continues to be a firm favourite on the airways. The album highlights Lena’s soulful and rich  vocals. The album’s opening tracks introduce you to a number of soulful offerings followed by a section of slow raw tracks with limited accompaniment that completely allow Lena’s voice the space to shine. The album finishes on a great track “Grateful Medley” ending with “Great is Thy faithfulness” with a Hammond organ accompaniment. Lena is at the moment in the middle of a US summer tour and has joined with multi-platinum rising Gospel legend, Erica Campbell as her special guest on Erica’s “Feel Alright Tour”. A lovely inspirational soulful album. 9/10.   Vivienne Neville.

“What If” Music Video from Matthew West

Matthew West is a well-known contemporary Christian singer with almost half a million Youtube subscribers. He began his music career in the late ‘90s and independently recorded three albums before getting a record deal. After signing, Matthew released five more albums.

Matthew received five Grammy nominations and multiple Dove awards during his musical journey. He also co-wrote songs for some other popular artists. Lucky for us, he’s still producing incredible songs!

His most recent album, ‘Brand New,’ includes ‘What If’ and a handful of other fun songs. ‘What If’ is about falling into a daily routine and letting life pass you by. We all know that life is a gift, but developing a routine and taking life for granted can happen so easily. And Matthew’s song can be a wonderful pick me up!

What if today’s the only day I got?
I don’t wanna waste it if it’s my last shot
No regrets, in the end
I wanna know I got no what ifs

The beginning of the video features Matthew struggling to get out of bed at the same time every day. Nothing new, nothing different, nothing exciting. This is so relatable to probably almost everybody. But again, LIFE IS PRECIOUS — don’t waste it!

For the rest of the video, Matthew does a bunch of fun activities with his family that he may not have done when he was stuck in a rut. After enjoying time with his wife and daughters at home, they all went to a salon for mani-pedis. Doesn’t seem too enjoyable for him, but at least he did something different!

He clearly enjoyed the fun-filled day with his family. I even had a great time just watching them have a great time! His song serves as a reminder that nothing is stopping us from enjoying the gift of life while we have it.

Now, go do something new and exciting!

I will praise you; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are your works; and that my soul knows right well. Psalm 139:14

The Review Zone – MATTHEW WEST : Brand New.   (Story House Music)

Matthew West has been around the Christian scene for a long time. Nearly two decades in fact! Whether as an artist himself, or writing songs for others, he’s obviously gifted. The song, “Brand New” is testimony on how the singer came to know Jesus. A nice beat, helps the ditty along the way. “Walking Miracles” tells us to look around at all the people around us. Some of them have fantastic stories to tell, and are proof that we should never give up in prayer. “The God Who Stays” and “Grace Upon Grace” are both big production numbers, with the former raising a tear or two in this reviewer’s eye. And, if that doesn’t have the same effect with you, then “Too Young, Too Soon” will! Written about the suicide of 6th grade school fiend of his daughter, Matthew highlights just how lonely some people can be. On a more positive note, Matthew celebrates the person God has made him, on the Michael Buble style “The Me You Made.” And, as a follow up to that statement, he tells of what he might be without God, on “Without You.” This is a duet with one of my current favourite new artists, Leanna Crawford. Now, I know that there are only so many musical notes in existence. And, sometimes, there may be a slight similarity in songs by artists, who are poles apart. But, as soon as “Looking Up” began, I was singing the first verse of Dire Straits’ “Rome & Juliette.” Am I the only one to notice this? Anyway, in my opinion, the best track is left until last. I loved the rapid percussion to “The Man Who Needed Grace,” and it really did seem to be the stand-out song. No doubt, long-time fans of West’s music will have their own views.   7/10.
