NFN Review – SALT OF THE SOUND : Hymns for Morningtide.   (https://on.echoes.blue/morningtide)

Following on from their 2021 Hymns for Eventide EP, this new collection of hymns is reimagined in an organic-yet-meditative style, featuring ethereal vocals, acoustic cello, and ambient soundscapes crafted from tongue drum tones. Now, as long-time readers of NFN will realise, I have found other releases from Salt of the Sound to be some of my favourite for personal meditation and relaxation. And, I’m pleased to report that this new album registers just as high with me. The delicate, ethereal vocals of Anita bring such a soothing sound on the opening ‘O the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus.’ It’s a feel that continues with the gentle version of ‘Praise to the Lord.’ Both tracks are performed to soundscapes that fit perfectly, with an occasional cello on show during the latter. The formula runs throughout the seven tracks, but don’t think that everyone sounds the same. Well-known hymns like ‘When I Survey’ and ‘How Great Thou Art’ are individually weaved into the Salt of the Sound mould. Vocals, at times, are layered, and this results in a beautiful sound. Once again, the cello can be heard, with echoing qualities flowing freely. The title track begins with the sound of chirping birds, accompanied by tongue drum tones. For me, personally, this short instrumental piece brought my time of meditation, peacefully, to a close. Once again, Ben & Anita Tatlow bring a treasure of calming sounds to the busy world around us.   10/10.
