NFN Review – CASPAR McCLOUD BAND : Walking in Authority.   (https://www.casparmccloudmusic.com)

I remembered reviewing an earlier release by Casper McCloud and his band, and I REALLY liked it. Being a classic rock/prog rock fan, the sound was right where I wanted to be. So, when I was asked to review this new release, I quickly found time to listen. Just for the uninitiated, Caspar McCloud is an accomplished portrait artist, an equestrian, a virtuoso guitarist, singer, and songwriter, as well as an ordained minister, and author. Caspar presently pastors a church called, “The Upper Room” in Roswell, GA, when he is not out traveling as a musician and a guest speaker. Instantly, I was hooked by this 24 track, 2 disc release. My immediate thought was it is reminiscent of Dave Flett (Manfred Manns Earth Band) and Thin Lizzy, among other bands and his style of guitar playing – plus occasional touches of Eddie Van Halen, too. Throughout the album, the listener is treat to driving beats, loud guitars, guitar soloing and spiritual lyrics. Not necessarily songs to have on in the car driving through a slow-down zone, but windows down, singing top of your voice! So, to the song themselves. ‘Up to Something’ has direct lyrics that challenge the devil on his actions and crimes against humanity. Alongside Caspar’s vocals, are thundering guitar riffs and drum breats, before his trademark solo sound appears during a short break. Then, we mustn’t forget the Rene Truex’s electric fiddle playing! The following ‘Gather’ is a slightly lighter tune that is calling us to gather around Jesus and the simple truths; ‘He is willing to deliver and receive us’ ‘Knowing the truth makes you free.’ Track 5 is a change of feeling. There’s a more positive set of riffs, a brighter sound, and great bass lines. If that’s not enough, there’s some great, vocal harmonies, as Caspar asks if you are ‘Unredeemable?’ The song is a reminder that no-one is beyond redemption. It’s a simple gospel message, with a violin rock solo, which then makes away for more screaming guitar licks. As I write, I’m not a quarter of the way through the CD and I already want to start it again, as it is so good! I would love to comment on each track but the review would be just too long. Just an acoustic guitar and strings are used on ‘No Eye Has Seen.’ The feel is almost McCartneyish, yet distinctly Caspar. Lyrically, you could imagine it being pulled from scripture as it is portrayed as a psalm. Yet these are Caspar’s own words.  ‘What You’re looking For’ has a touch of  The Travelling Wilberys about it. Close my eyes, and I could visualise the likes of Tom Petty and Bob Dylan singing this one! I try not to find group styles when describing tracks here and there. But, I guess, we have similar musical roots and it brings so many memories of great bands, and this band is no exception! The second disc continues with a mix of Rock, Country rock and, now and again, good pop songs such as ‘Darker and Lighter.’ Lyrically, the song tells of the darkness of this world, but also offers the light of the world in the shape of our Saviour. Another highlight of the track listing is ‘Watch and Pray.’ It’s back to pure rock with a great arrangement. Once again, those violin sounds flow over grungy guitars, while Caspar reminds us to watch and pray. There are so many great tracks, and even an instrumental or two! Joined by his musical comrades, Carlos Merced on drums, Donovan SL on keyboards, the previously mentioned Rene on violin, Caspar’s band are unique, yet so familiar at times. As well as during the sung lyrics, you can feel the joy of being able to convey God’s love in such a way.  I would love to see the band live. In the meantime, I look forward to listening this again and again.  10/10 Noel Donaldson

Caspar McCloud Band to Release New Double Album: Walking In Authority

“Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.” Titus 2:13-15.

“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel, For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.” Ephesians 6:10-20.

Friends in Jesus, Pastor Caspar McCloud has written twenty-four new songs that will encourage and uplift you as you walk in the authority that was given to you by Christ Jesus, our Lord and Savior. Does Christian music sometimes let you down and leave you flat? In sharp contrast to much of what one finds on popular Christian radio, McCloud’s music dares to be relevant. He’s not afraid to name names, call out evil for what it is, and shed light on the truth. In so doing he gives legs to Walking In Authority during these prophetic days. As McCloud has asked: “Do you ever feel as though you’ve been drafted into an episode of The Twilight Zone?” If so, you’re not alone.

McCloud recorded this new double album, Walking In Authority, with his band. It includes a colorful CD cover photo that pictures McCloud mounted atop his horse, Mr. Bob, surrounded by his band and some of his friends, fellow pastors, ministers, rockstars he has played with, and medical professionals who represent fellow believers walking in the authority given to us by Jesus fighting the good fight for the sake of the gospel. They will not be daunted by the tread tractor full of masked up despots trying to destroy the world storming up just behind them. There’s good work still to do for the Lord and time is short as the day of His return draws ever so near. Onward Christian soldiers, and just like in so many Old Testament battles, let the musicians lead the way in battle!

This powerfully great music will spur you on to occupy well as an ambassador for Christ in these ever so challenging end times that we are living through. So run into the daily battle empowering your spirit by fueling your day with songs from Walking in Authority.

Preaching the truth through song and praising God for His goodness and faithfulness, McCloud brings us to a place of peace, faith and hope while never soft-soaping the harsh realities we face daily. How is that even possible? Philippians 4:7 tells us the peace of God exceeds all understanding, and that it shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. God inhabits the praises of His people (Psalms 22:3) so should it be any surprise McCloud’s anointed music has this effect of bringing supernatural peace and joy?

Together with his band mates Carlos Merced on drums, Donovan SL on keyboard and Renae’ Truex on violin, guitar virtuoso McCloud brings it in his amazing lightning-speed style.

McCloud has incorporated biblical themes with signs of the times put to music that you’ll love the first time you hear it.

Here are some of my lyrical highlights and impressions of each song on Walking In Authority:

MAKE US FREE   A kind of prayer put to song with a driving beat, playing out the tension of wondering how much more can our minds take and how much more of these end times can we endure until God rescues us and makes us free from the world’s lies to deliver us unto the heaven He has prepared for us.

WHEN TWO AGREE   An upbeat song that poses the rhetorical question: In these dark days of deceptive, draconian prevailing narratives, can we glorify God, be a light, and bring the comfort and hope of the gospel to those who can’t cope? The answer: a resounding ‘yes’ and an encouraging exhortation to pray and trust the Lord for everything as we wait in faith for heaven to respond.

UP TO SOMETHING   A groovy tune that calls out the powerful despots for orchestrating their lying narratives. We know they’re up to something no good.  Their own deeds of predictive programming reveal how they planned it from the beginning in an attempt to gain the public’s trust. Well, we’re not buying it. Enough’s enough of believing that devilish insanity.

GATHER   An upbeat, rock-out song that encourages us to gather together in prayer, and put our faith in Jesus into action. He is willing to receive us, deliver us from our enemies, and surround us with His compassion; doing more for us than we can think or imagine – the miraculous!

UNREDEEMABLE   A great rock song that calls out to the spiritually lost. The angels who sinned and fell from Heaven are unredeemable. Do you believe you’re unredeemable? That’s what the devil would have you believe. Is there anything too hard for the Lord? The truth is that as long as you have life and breath, there is time and opportunity to repent. God will forgive you. All those who call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

CHRIST’S LOVES ENOUGH   A song with a powerfully anointed word of encouragement to the soldiers in God’s army: There is so much sinister, world-wide chaos being stirred up, but know this: Things are not falling apart. Biblical prophecy is coming together. Christ Jesus told us these things would happen just as they are. He is in the process of redeeming all things unto Himself on our behalf. So never give up, Christ’s love’s enough! Keep on singing God’s praises.

NO EYES HAS SEEN   A soft and beautiful meditative acoustic piece that highlights 1 Corinthians 2:9: “But as it is written, eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.” Jesus died for you and rose from the dead in order to give you eternal life. One day suddenly Christ Jesus will return. Are you prepared to meet Him? Before you were born He knew you and planned your destiny, but He always leaves the choice to you of eternal life available only in Him.

WHAT YOU’RE LOOKING FOR   A soft rock piece with a theme of hope running throughout that promises when we see our lives filtered through the love of Jesus, it will be filled with peace, holiness, and God’s abundant righteousness, mercy, grace and love to heal our brokenness.

THE HOURS WE FIRST BELIEVED   An upbeat song celebrating in song and prayer the hour we first believed in what Jesus alone achieved for us in our salvation. When we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

FLY INTO THE SKY   This soft rock melody is about the great promised day of God’s wondrous snatching away of believers from the earth that is commonly referred to as The Rapture. Do you have the Lord’s blessed assurance that you will be counted worthy to escape The Great Tribulation to be called by the trump of God to fly home up to Heaven, being changed in the twinkling of an eye into an immortal being to be with Him forever in the Heaven He has prepared for us?

INSEPARABLE   This upbeat, happy song asks us to try and imagine how glorious it will be on the other side of this life. Believers in Jesus have God’s promise of eternity with Him in Heaven where we will be with Him forever – inseparable! And yet even now we are already seated with Him in heavenly places, supernaturally and eternally bound together!

WORLD GONE MAD   A singing commentary that voices what many are thinking: It should have never gotten this bad! But such as in the days of Noah will the coming of the Son of Man be. This is not the first time the world has gone mad. It’s not the first time that the Lord God Almighty has had to intervene in order to set things right. Keep watching as all the chaos continues to roll out on the world stage socially, politically, and geologically. They are the birthing pains of the world in process of finally being delivered from evil by our faithful God who wrote about all of these things in His holy guidebook of the supernatural.

CHRIST IN ME   A bold, classic style rock song with equally bold lyrics that exclaim: The devil knows his time is short. He’s as guilty as sin, yet he thinks he can cheat to win. People trading freedom for survival clearly don’t understand the Bible. I’m waiting for the great revival. My heart is ready for Christ’s arrival. What a day that will be. My trust in God put Christ in me.

I SAW A SIGN   As a believer in Jesus and His holy Word, how many times have you seen a sign of the times play out before your eyes that made you think to yourself: This is so obvious. I don’t understand how unbelievers can’t see the big picture of what is really taking place! This song shares that frustration of: If only they would open their heart to hearing the gospel of Jesus, then they’d understand and God could save them too.

WHAT GOD SAID   This song contrasts how the world thinks with what God said. The world goes astray by worshiping the creation instead of the Creator. The world practices sorcery instead of calling upon God to fill them with His Holy Spirit power. The religious complicate salvation by adding conditions that God never intended. Instead, our loving God made salvation so clear and simple when He said in the Bible: If we confess with our mouth and believe in our hearts Jesus arose from the dead, we shall be saved.

DARKER AND LIGHTER   A light-hearted song with lyrics that contrast Christians with the world. The world’s getting darker, but we’re getting lighter every day. Soon and suddenly everything’s going to change the day Christ Jesus returns. Every knee shall bow and every tongue will confess that He is Lord. Until then people suffer from lack of knowledge being brainwashed in college. Feeling miserable about your life? Turn to Jesus, our only true hope, while there is still time.

SELF DRIVING TRUCK   This song is just plain fun, so enjoy it! At long last, Pastor McCloud has written and recorded his first country song! When someone questioned Revelation Rocker Caspar McCloud about writing a country music song, he responded with: “Well…after all, England is a country.” But I digress. What’s the worst thing that could happen with a vehicle fully equipped with AI technology? This tongue-in-cheek country ballad paints a picture of how things went terribly wrong between a man and his truck.

WATCH AND PRAY   It’s easy to picture the band’s violinist/fiddle crusher extraordinaire, Renae’ Truex, “walking down the streets of Nashville (her daily stomping grounds), praying along the way. Blessing everyone that you meet” so the song’s lyrics begin. It’s all in a day’s work for her to play music from the heart with great style and skill, and always wearing that beautiful smile. When Renae’ is not playing music with Caspar McCloud Band, you’ll find her playing her violin at Nashville’s Broadway clubs and sharing the love of Jesus with all those she meets. In this very upbeat song, McCloud paraphrases what Jesus said in Luke 21:36: “Watch and pray that you may have the strength to escape all that is about to happen and to stand before the Son of Man.” No matter what uniform we put on for work, we’re all called to be ministers and share the gospel of Jesus with a lost world that’s out of control.

UNBREAKABLE   Ah, the mysterious thread of human emotions! Sometimes the indescribable joy we feel while playing music or taking in the beauty of nature can be overwhelming. How ironic that even the things we love can sometimes bring us to a place of despair. So it seems inevitable that something in life will break our hearts. There’s no heart that’s unbreakable and no soul that’s unsaveable, but God can bring us back into balance when we center our lives on Him because He is in the business of mending broken hearts and saving the hopeless ones in despair.

AUTHORITY   Authority is a song of spiritual warfare from where the idea came for the album title, Walking In Authority. We stand and walk in the authority Jesus delegated to His believers after He rose from the dead. In the power of the Holy Spirit we do miraculous works in the Almighty name of Jesus to bring glory to God.

FOR NOW   How do we operate in this world as a follower of Jesus? For now the Holy Spirit guides us from within as we write and play music unto the Lord, research and share how events worldwide line up with Biblical prophecy, and witness to the lost the good news of the gospel of Jesus.

OUR VICTORY SONG    This instrumental showcases the great talent of guitar virtuoso Caspar McCloud.

ANOINTED   Sit back, close your eyes, and let the beauty of this instrumental theme sink into your soul.

READ BETWEEN THE LINES   In Matthew 16, Jesus rebuked the Pharisees and Sadducees for asking Him to show them a sign from heaven. He railed at them for being able to discern the weather by looking at the sky, but not paying attention to discern the signs of the times. What is your worldview? Is God trying to get your attention? This beautiful acoustic song asks: can you discern the times and read between the lines?

Too Christian For Christian Radio….

Caspar McCloud Banned Again

Many churches using the identity of “Christian” have kept their flocks in the dark and have failed to address vital world current events even though biblical prophecies are unfolding before our very eyes. Some churches have lost their first love (Jesus) and are more concerned with church growth and money. Quite a number of them deny the literal second coming of Jesus. Dare I say that perhaps it upsets their leadership too much to think they might be deposed and dethroned by our coming King Christ Jesus?

So instead of leading worship services that truly glorify God and edify the flock, they stage musical entertainment and give feel-good messages because they’re afraid of losing numbers by saying something that might offend someone.

Sadly this spirit has also infiltrated the Christian music industry, and quite a number of radio stations are reluctant to play music that gives voice to the relevant issues of our day in fear of offending and losing their listener base. They play it safe by choosing only to play easy-listening songs. If the lyrics are too edgy, the music is rejected and the DJs claim “the music doesn’t fit our Christian music format.”

These cowardly practices lead back to the biblical truths found in: Hosea 4:6: “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because you have rejected knowledge, I reject you from being a priest to me. And since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.” Hebrews 5:12-14: “For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food, for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a child. But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.” 1 Timothy 6:10: “For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.” Isn’t it interesting that so many now are piercing themselves through with unlicensed, uninsured gene modifying experimental substances?

Take courage, be of good cheer, and add Caspar McCloud Band’s soon to be released double album, Walking In Authority, to your Christian music collection.

NFN Review Zone – CASPAR McCLOUD : Back to Back. (https://www.casparmccloudmusic.com)

The rocking singer, songwriter and guitarist, Caspar McCloud is back with his band, and a brand new album. The beat of “How Close We Are” is a great album opener, and I had to play it again and again. The winning formula continues with “Jesus Wins.” Guitar led, the song tells of that simple message; “Bringing joy, for all the world to see; Jesus saves all who believe; Washing away all your sins; Let us worship Him.” The sound changes for both the title track and “Comfort.” On the latter, it’s the layered vocals that carry the tune to just a humble guitar and a mid-song violin break. It reminded me of Buffalo Springfield from the late 60’s. Of course, a Caspar McCloud album wouldn’t be the same without some great, guitar solos. And, on “Freedom,” he doesn’t disappoint. Oh, how I wish I’d learnt those skills! As the song closes, there’s another smashing violin/fiddle instrumental from  Renae Truex to enjoy, too. If that’s not enough for rock guitar fans, there’s even an instrumental called “Escape,” were Caspar allows himself free-rein in a Steve Vai sort of way. “Hold That Line” fairly motors along, while “No Longer Conspiracy” slows things right down, bringing peace and joy, through the Holy Ghost. Of the gentler tracks, the 7 minute “When the Dream is Over” is quite soothing in sound. Caspar puts his rock guitar to one-side, as it’s replaced by some exquisite acoustic picking. Indeed, the closing tracks are more worshipful, as the band goes deeper into the Spirit of Christ. If you think that this is just another rock based album, please be sure that there’s more to this release than that. The music is the vehicle for Caspar’s lyrics of Bible truths. There are songs of love, warnings against sin, Jesus Our Saviour, and much, much more. Enjoy the music and listen to the words of each one. This releaase will give you plenty to consider, whether you are already a Christian or not.   9/10.

NFN Review Zone – CASPAR McCLOUD : Black Swan. (https://www.casparmccloudmusic.com/)

The title track of this album immediately reminded me of Steely Dan. It is a good track to start, and within seconds I knew I would like this recording. With a nice violin and catchy chorus, it glides through the song. The songs that follow have elements of country rock, including a balanced violin solo which seamlessly changes to electric guitar. There are good harmonies and clear vocals. “In the End Times” starts as a pure rock. There is some interesting violin work over the block harmonies, a good guitar solo, and non-cliché lyrics. I loved this track! Reading the press release, Casper has a great pedigree – an ordained minister, played and preached at Woodstock’s 50th-anniversary concert, and has played regularly with Tommy James and the Shondell, Caspar also finds time as a portrait artist and bestselling author. “A Night in the Holy Land” took me by surprise, as it’s an instrumental. There are nearly 5 mins of great guitar solos which left me wanting more. Again, the sound of the guitar and violin really complement each other. Another great track. “Christ is Our Reward” and “Your Living Word”  are more akin to worship, which would work well within services. Overall one of the best recordings I have heard for a while. It is nice to listen to new music that is more than just a worship album. I like listening to bands where guitar/violin solo is just as important as the lyrics. The music, then, makes you hear and take in those words – which in this case are full of biblical truths. Highly Recommended. 9/10.   Noel Donaldson.

“Nanobots” Release from Caspar McCloud

A modern-day Renaissance man, Caspar McCloud has wowed fans and fellow guitarists with his lightning-fast technique, his use of effects, a la his friend and mentor Phil Keaggy, as well as his gentle, serene, Celtic classical acoustic playing. Caspar has also toured as a member of Tommy James and the Shondells. Tommy enjoys letting his secular audience know one of his musicians is a pastor. Caspar is quoted as saying, “Do you want me to keep preaching to the choir each week or help get some people saved?”

Folowing the release of his latest album, “Black Swan,” Caspar is back with his band and a topical, new song, for these strange times. Watch & Listen here:
